Promises Kept: The Medal of Sacrifice is Now Law

In November 2024, our community suffered an incomprehensible loss when three lions of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office—Deputies Ralph “Butch” Waller, Ignacio “Dan” Diaz, and Luis Paez—were tragically killed on the side of the road.

After we laid them to rest, President Trump and I spoke about an absence that was impossible to ignore: there was no presidentially authorized medal to posthumously recognize law enforcement officers and first responders killed in the line of duty.

From that conversation, the Medal of Sacrifice Act was born. I am proud to share that President Trump has officially signed my bill into law.

For too long, when a hero in uniform made the ultimate sacrifice, Washington offered little more than temporary political lip service. This law changes that forever. My bill establishes a permanent, prestigious presidential award to ensure that the families of fallen law enforcement officers and first responders know their loved one’s sacrifice is honored at the highest level of our government.

But our work isn’t done. We will continue to stand like a wall behind the men and women who put their lives on the line for us every single day. We must continue to fight for the resources and absolute community backing that our local police, sheriffs and first responders deserve.

They don’t cut corners when it comes to protecting our families, and we won’t cut corners when it comes to having their back.

The signing of the Medal of Sacrifice Act proves that when we stand together, we deliver real results for our heroes. Let’s keep the momentum going.

President Trump signed the law—now let’s finish the job! Sign the petition to celebrate this massive win:
